Obesity is the root of multiple diseases that affects a person from head to toe. Despite that obesity as a disease is not concidered seriously as patient thmeselves dont accept that they need to reduce their weight and should focus on fitness. This ignorance in our society has lead to obesity being the biggest reason of illhealth across the world, it is still believed that obesity is genetic and does not deserve treatment.

This is the first time in the history of medicine that a disease has reached epidemic proportions and yet is fighting to get labelled as a “disease”.

India is the 3rd fattest country in the world along with the world’s diabetic capital. Although bariatric surgery is the only method that leads to sustained weight loss in the morbidly obese, less than 1% of the eligible population is actually using the benefits of surgery.
Solution is to create awareness through all points of contact.

The dictonary meaning of doctor is a learned or authoritative TEACHER.

I have been living this month by this very meaning.

I was invited as a panelist in Laprofit a conference on obesity management at mecca of laparoscopy GEM hospital Coimbatore.

I ran a marathon to create awareness about obesity on Saturday morning.

I spoke to family physicians on the science of weightloss and their role in it in their yearly conference on Sunday morning.

Furthurmore, I travelled to Mumbai for a SAAM SANJIVANI live TV interview on Sunday afternoon to create awareness in society about obesity.

This Sunday I am the organising secretary for a conference on Hernia to teach and increase the awareness about recent advances in hernia management. More than 250 delegates have already registered.

Not to mention Patient care and surgeries are in full swing side by side.

My goal is to create an impact in care with compassion. I am sure you are all with me in this misson.
